Suntheanine calms thunderstorm fears of dogs, according to new research presented at the 2014 Veterinary Behavior Symposium. The study author reported a 40 percent reduction in storm anxiety among the dogs studied when the dogs were given ANXITANE,® which features Suntheaine brand L-theanine as its active ingredient.
Among other findings of the study:
– Thunderstorm anxiety in dogs is challenging to manage because dogs become afraid not only of thunder, but also the signs of an approaching storm – including changes in barometric pressure, humidity and distant lightning.
– Pets suffering during thunderstorms exhibit panting, drooling and shaking, and may have accidents indoors. Owners can be kept awake during overnight storms.
The 2014 Veterinary Behavior Symposium was held in conjunction with the 2014 American Veterinary Medical Association annual convention. Attending were veterinarians, including those who specialize in animal behavior, other experts in animal behavior, and certified dog and cat behaviorists from around the world. The findings were reported by Steve Dale’s Pet World, a column published by the Chicago Tribune.
Suntheanine is a pure form of L-theanine produced via a patented enzymatic process by Taiyo. ANXITANE is the registered trademark of an animal health product made by Virbac Corporation.
