Dr. Oz recommended L-theanine on the May 16th episode of The Dr. Oz Show. As reported in Examiner.com, Dr. Oz recommended L-theanine for insomnia. Dr. Oz recommended L-theanine 30 minutes before bedtime to induce relaxation and promote better sleep. He recommended a dose of 200mg.
Since ancient times, it has been said that drinking green tea induces relaxation. Taiyo found this relaxation effect to be due to the presence of the amino acid L-theanine, found almost exclusively in tea. Clinical research suggests that L-theanine may improve the quality of sleep. However, it would require drinking a large quantity of tea to provide the 200mg recommended by Dr. Oz. A concentrated source of L-theanine is Suntheanine®, a pure form of L-theanine produced via a patented enzymatic process by Taiyo, is available as a supplement from a number of suppliers.
Dr. Oz has been a professor of surgery at Columbia University since 2001. He obtained his MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1986. The Dr. Oz Show debuted in 2009.
